Friends… who doesn’t like that show, like honestly it’s such easy watching and so funny, no matter how many times you’ve seen the same episode! So when we saw it advertised my friends and I were so up for going. The actual festival is touring around different areas but we went to Haggerston park.
To make the day even more special we had booked a Willy Wonka style Afternoon Tea at The Chesterfield Mayfair, it was the cutest thing ever, as you may have seen in my previous post I am a big fan of cute little sandwiches. Well this one had added fun as the sweet treats were all themed to Willy Wonka, for instance there was a Wonka Bar, A Golden chocolate egg, a mini eclair which tasted like bubble gum and Macaroon’s in Violet.. all as you can see are themed to the film.
As we were about to leave, Willy Wonka himself came out to meet us which was a fun little surprise.
If you are interested you can check out the link to the place here: (Personally I think it is a bit over priced for what in essence is a few sandwiches) http://www.afternoontea.co.uk/uk/london/mayfair/chesterfield-hotel/
After Tea we were off to the main event… Friends Fest! As we arrived it was a lot quieter than we thought it would be, it was in a huge field, with a main stage and tents all around with different sets inside them.
The most popular one was Monica’s apartment, this room is one of the most featured rooms throughout the series so everyone wanted a photo sitting on the kitchen table or on the sofa watching TV haha, it was really busy! The set was actually a LOT smaller than you would imagine so I’m not sure if it was actually to scale. Of course we were like everyone else taking photos in every space we could.
After Monica’s apartment you went into Joey & Chandler’s Apartment, again this was really cool but it was in a huge room along with a drinks bar and personally I just couldn’t get a feel for it actually being in the real room, it just felt like any old room to be honest.
Then for Central Perk cafe, my favourite part was the little corner where Phoebe sits to sing and play her guitar. Clearly I had to sit there as I am always at open mic nights and playing my guitar, so it was so cool to pretend I was Phoebe, although I didn’t bust out a rendition of Smelly Cat! haha 🙂
As well as these rooms they even had a Silent Disco, which was supposed to be the time that Ross and Monica went to Dick Clark’s New Years Rockin’ Eve. It wasn’t a silent disco in Friends so I’m not sure why it was here, maybe so as it wouldn’t disturb anyone. If you don’t know what a silent disco is, it’s when you put on head phones and the music plays through there rather than big speakers. So the room itself is actually silent and if you want to stop the music you can just take you head phones off. It’s quite the in thing apparently.. lol.
It was definitely worth the experience, as I am a huge Friends fan, however I think it could have been made slightly better, for instance making Monica’s apartment and Joey and Chandler’s opposite each other, so you could actually walk through the door into the opposite room, that would have been cool and felt like you were at the real set.
Anyway if you fancy the experience it is currently touring, or if not right now I think they have turned it into a yearly event due to the popularity of it. It’s definitely worth it if you are a Friends fan! 🙂
