April 21st 2016 marked Queen Elizabeth’s 90th year. She chose to celebrate in one of her favourite towns Windsor. I am beyond lucky as I live in Windsor so the celebrations were right on my doorstep. Some people had travelled miles, flew from all around the world to be here for this special occasion.
The first day of celebrations started on April 20th where the Queen opened up a new band stand which had recently been built in Alexandra Gardens. The gardens were filled with thousands and thousands of people trying to catch a glimpse of her. We managed to get close enough to see her in the car driving off as she left 🙂
The following day, which was her real birthday, Windsor was even more packed than before. I would say there were millions of people, camera crews, press and police were everywhere. Security was hightened! Which was a good thing for sure.
The Queen walked from the Castle to the Guildhall, then she got in an open top car where she stood up and was driven through the high street waving to the crowds. Once she reached the bottom of the high street she got out off her open top car and walked into her usual Royal car.
That evening she went to the Long Walk to light a beacon which then continued all around the country. People in all different towns lit up beacons in honour of the Queen’s 90th Birthday.
I am so happy that I attended all these different events, it was really special to be involved in such a huge and wonderful event. I made a video of all the goings on. Please check out my video below, I got some really great close up shots of The Queen 🙂
