Puttin’ on the Ritz

On Monday 6th July my dad & I went to the Theatre Royal Windsor to watch ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’.

We had previously watched the Windsor repertory company perform their six week season, of which the cast are pretty amazing. Every week the same cast put on a new play, so the week they are performing they are rehearsing for the following weeks play. Bearing in mind each character has an awful lot to say, so they have to learn huge amounts of script in under a week which is phenomenal! Not many people can do that.

We did enjoy the plays but we are more of a musical family, therefore when we heard about ‘Puttin’ on the Ritz’ we were so excited to be watching.

They wowed the audience from the moment the curtains opened, starting with the famous song ‘There’s no business like show business’ All the dancers and singers were on stage, the girls were in the most beautiful dresses you could imagine and they performed wonderfully and captivated all of us immediately.

There were also guest performers, Katya & Jared who were both professionals on BBC1’s Strictly Come Dancing, they performed a few dances together, some really fast moves that made you feel out of breath just watching! Also, fantastic partner work and lifts, they really danced well together and it was a joy to watch.

There was another guest performer, Becky O’Brien who we first saw on Britain’s got talent when she sang Judy Garland’s somewhere over the rainbow and blew everyone away.

She did 2 sets, one in the first half and one in the second. She sang a few different songs each time and was just brilliant, Becky really is talented and sings so effortlessly. She has a great personality and seems like such a lovely lady too. Becky is definitely a great performer who belongs on the stage.

The rest of the show was very enjoyable, they even played an old silent movie during the interval which had the audience all laughing. All the songs were from the 20’s, 30’s & 40’s, everyone was singing and clapping along with them.

Each and every dancer was spot on, they looked great on stage and really lifted the show with their quality presence. I couldn’t take my eyes off of them, each performer was so polished you couldn’t fault them. They had so many costume changes as well, which speaking from experience is not easy, especially when you are so hot and have to be changed in a couple of minutes. However, they all looked wonderful, especially the girls in those dresses. The costumes were colourful and full of sparkle which is every girls dream, I think that’s partly why I enjoyed it so much!

Anyway, that’s all for now. Make sure you don’t miss this incredible show, it really is a must see!
